Your first 72 hours in Korea: a practical checklist

Prepare documents, connectivity, transport and a first base, then adjust the next steps to your reason for coming.

Useful for: tourists, students, work, residence, business. Information checked 2026-10-29; next editorial review 2026-11-05.

Before boarding: save the essential details

Keep your passport and airline documents available and save the address and contact details for your first destination offline. Confirm the airport and terminal, how you will get connected and the transport options that fit the arrival time. Your checklist should remain useful even if your phone cannot connect immediately. This guide is a planning aid, not a decision about whether you can enter Korea.

Check entry information with the official service

Nationality, existing status and the purpose of travel can change which official steps apply. Use the government entry and visa services to confirm your circumstances. If an e-Arrival Card is required, check the submission window and the expiry time on the government service: a submitted declaration is valid for 72 hours. Do not confuse this declaration with K-ETA, and do not assume that choosing a category in our planner establishes eligibility.

At the airport: finish the arrival process first

Follow the airline and airport signs for immigration, baggage and any required declarations. Keep your documents available and use the designated public information points when a direction is unclear. Avoid making a tightly timed onward booking that depends on an unrealistically quick exit. Korean officials and the relevant authorities determine the required procedures; our checklist cannot replace their instructions.

Connect and reach your first base

Use your prepared mobile plan or a trusted connection, then check the route to your saved address. Follow the relevant Incheon, Gimpo or Gimhae guide rather than a generic Seoul transfer listing. Confirm the terminal pickup and the last service. For a pre-arranged ride, read the operator’s contact and delay instructions. Before leaving the terminal, make sure you can still access the address and the host’s contact if data stops working.

Use the first day to make the next day easier

Confirm that you can enter your accommodation, charge your phone and reach your main contact. Check tomorrow’s essential journey and how its ticket or transport card works. Do not spend the entire first day solving optional bookings while tired. Keep important confirmations in a place you can find without searching a long email thread, and separate the temporary arrival arrangements from decisions that affect a longer stay.

Adapt the next two days to your purpose

Students should follow university check-in and orientation instructions. Workers should confirm arrangements with their authorized host or employer; this website does not place people in jobs. Business visitors should recheck meeting locations and travel buffers. Longer-term residents should use public information for any relevant administration. Tourists can add activities after the arrival basics are settled. The useful next step is different for each group, so our recommendations remain optional.
