Separate travel tickets from everyday payment

A transport card, a reserved train ticket, a foreign bank card and a booking confirmation solve different problems. Before your first journey, identify what the actual operator accepts and whether a separate ticket is needed. Do not assume that being able to pay in a shop means the same card will work at a transport gate, or that a sightseeing pass covers an airport connection.

Choose a transport card for your actual journeys

Public tourism information describes several transport-card options. Compare the city and routes you will use, how to obtain and recharge the card, what is included and how unused value is handled. A city-specific pass and a general stored-value card can have different coverage. Review the official conditions instead of assuming that one card works on every train, bus or attraction in the country.

Plan the recharge and refund steps

Before buying, read how the chosen card can be loaded, which payment methods are accepted at your likely recharge point and whether the transport balance is separate from any other payment balance. Keep enough value for the next essential journey and check the rules for unused funds before departure. Methods and conditions can vary, so we do not promise a particular foreign card will be accepted by every machine or app.

Keep a backup way to pay

Ask your own card issuer about overseas use, fees and any travel-related controls. Carry an alternative method suitable for the journeys and places you have planned, while avoiding unnecessary cash or sharing card information. Check the currency shown before confirming a transaction. This is practical travel preparation rather than a recommendation for a financial product, and My Korea Start does not handle card numbers, exchanges or payments.

Check the whole route before tapping in

Identify your line, direction, interchange and exit in advance, and follow the operator’s instructions for entering, transferring and leaving the service. If an airport or intercity train requires a separately reserved ticket, keep that confirmation accessible. A transfer that is easy without luggage can be difficult after a long flight. Check accessibility information directly if stairs, walking distances or particular assistance will affect your journey.

When a payment or ticket fails

Use the station, operator or provider’s official help point rather than handing sensitive information to an unfamiliar person. Keep the transaction receipt and check whether a charge actually completed before repeatedly attempting the same purchase. For travel information, use the public tourism resources. For card-account problems, contact your issuer. This site cannot reverse a charge, recover a lost balance or confirm a reservation held by another operator.
